4. #WeAreDistributed: High-level strategy and update

Hey there,

We hope you had a great holiday weekend and a good beginning to your week.

If you spent your holiday searching for jobs or learning more about what’s happening with global employment, we think that is a great way to enjoy a weekend!

Last two weeks, we, Ada and Jessica, joined the #wearedistributed team and gave you one of the most interesting newsletter entries you will ever come across.

No jokes.

We shared the Top Global Jobs of the Week sourced exclusively for our global job board, shared a Global Employment Advocate we admire (Talitha Thompson), and highlighted a globally distributed tool (Lavender AI) worth mentioning.

You can read (or re-read) the entry here.

For this week’s entry, we’ll focus on business metrics, high-level strategy, and some other things we are cooking up for you. 😊

Ready, set,…

High-level strategy: Metrics we want you to see

Since we launched #wearedistributed only a month ago, it’s been amazing watching our community grow.

As we promised in the #1 issue of the newsletter, we will occasionally be providing high-level strategy about what we are thinking and planning, and how we're growing.

We will keep providing more metrics so you can understand our mission and see our shortcomings. Either way, we want to be fully transparent and take you on this journey with us.

What we’ve got cooking

Here at #wearedistributed, we want the future of work to work for everyone by discussing issues surrounding toxic workplace cultures, western-centric employment practices, and unfair pay, to name just a few, through our social channels and community.

Continuing our dedication to transparency, we’re sharing our visual content calendar with you. We’ve got lots of ideas cooking up here at WAD, with plenty of content series that are meant to establish our voice, facilitate conversations, and poke fun at some of the more annoying aspects of being a global employee or employer.

Above is an example of our visual content calendar. Some of the series, just like this newsletter that you’re currently reading, are meant to give quality insights into global work, tools, companies, and top jobs to our community first.

The different content series we’ll be premiering over the next month are:

  • Meme of the Week which is meant to vent our frustrations in a way that’s, hopefully, cathartic

  • Best Company of the Week where we interview top industry professionals doing the work

  • Top 5 Global Jobs of the Week meant to get you hired

  • State of GE and GE Definitions to educate you on the state of global employment

  • Workplace Callout, to call out bad practices in the workplace

  • Day in the Life highlights how global employees actually spend their time

Here’s an example of some different content topics and challenges that we’ll be tackling as well:

Each week, our content series will focus on different topics, themes, and challenges. Here’s just a portion of what we’re working on. Do you have any ideas of what themes or topics related to global employment you’d like us to tackle? Let us know your thoughts in our Community Requests group.

We’re excited to start expanding our ideas into weekly series, so keep your eyes peeled.

Complete a quick survey in less than a minute

You’re special to the #wearedistributed community and we want to keep giving you the content you need.

To understand you better, do you have less than a minute to complete a short survey?

Your input will help us understand why you’re part of our community and shed light on ways we can improve our offerings.

We will be incredibly grateful to hear your thoughts. Thank you so much for your time! 🙏🏿

What to expect next week

Next week, we’ll be bringing the newsletter back around to feature helpful content like:

  • The Top 5 Global Jobs of the Week

  • Distributed Tool of the Week

  • Workplace Callout

  • Word of the Week

Well, that’s everything.

We’ve been really excited to see our metrics grow slowly but surely and we hope you appreciate our transparency. We’re also excited to see our community grow and are looking forward to meeting more of you as the weeks go by. We’ll be in your inbox next week with more insights into tools, companies, and jobs tailored for you and the Future of Work.

Until next time. 😉
