9. May 2023: High-level strategy and update

Get a sneak peek at our high-level strategy, upcoming content plans, and more!

Welcome to another newsletter entry! Since it’s the end of the month, we wanted to give you a behind-the-scenes look at where we stand, metrics-wise.

If you read last week’s newsletter, you’ll have read about the accusations against J.P. Morgan Chase by their employees who claim the company has been using a high-end AI program to spy on their every move. If they’re clocked in, they’re being monitored.

We also included 5 new global jobs, a great distributed tool of the week called Moodfit that helps you connect with your state of mind, and shouted out MailerLite for being a great choice for our Distributed Company of the Week and other details.

Re-read it or read it for the first time here.

With that being said, here’s our newest edition of the newsletter with a behind-the-scenes look at what we’ve got going on, with some big changes happening.

High-level strategy: What we’ve been up to since the last update

Since we last updated you all, we’ve been hard at work trying to implement a sustainable strategy that will allow us to grow at a steady pace and build We Are Distributed into something big.

We’ve changed our channel distribution strategy from multichannel to focusing solely on LinkedIn, where we think we’ve got the best chance of reaching our primary audience in hopes of growing our community through expanding our voice there.

We’ve also been hard at work pulling together our two content series: Top 5 Global Jobs of the Week and this newsletter (which has become one of our favorite tasks as it also has other content series within!)

As of this week, we’ve got forty-five active job listings on our global job board in 10 different departments and have published 4 more newsletters (making it eight entries), intending to provide you with high-value content to help you improve your remote work life.

Below are some metrics we want you to see since the last time we updated you.

High-level strategy: Metrics we want you to see

#wearedistributed was launched at the end of February and since then, we’ve been trying to figure out how best to serve our community with high-quality and high-value series, posts, and writing, like in the case of this newsletter.

But we’re still just starting. That means there’s going to be a learning curve. This is especially true since we (Ada & Jessica) have only just started on the team, turning #wearedistributed from a 1 to a 3-person team.

Here are the latest statistics from our Visitor Analytics from 24th April to 23rd May 2023:

  • Overall page visits: 341

  • Bounce Rate: 56%

  • 20 countries with at least 1 visitor 🌍️

    • Nigeria, India, United States, Ghana, Kenya, Netherlands, Italy, Iraq, Canada, Spain, Ireland, Indonesia, Poland, Ukraine, Estonia, Pakistan, Philippines, Germany, Bangladesh, France

  • Social media: 118 followers across Linkedin, Twitter, & Instagram

  • Newsletter: 26 subscribers

  • Community: 46 members

  • Active job listings: 45

  • The total value of active opportunities: $3,634,000

  • Average job value: $80,755

If there’s one metric we are excited about: it’s that you guys have been returning! That tells us that we’re at least doing something right when it comes to making content that you guys want to keep returning to, that’s a positive. 🥳

We’re hoping as we straighten out the kinks, dig deep into a highly-specified strategy (which we will discuss a little more below), and continue to churn out high-quality content and series, we’ll be able to see our community grow and thrive.

What we’ve got cooking

Since our last high-level update where we mentioned some of the content series like the Workplace callout and Top 5 Global Jobs of the Week we wanted to launch, it has been quite an emotional roll-coaster!

Still, in the spirit of transparency in helping global employees and employers create the future of work we all want, #wearedistributed will be making some changes to how we communicate the workplace issues we've been shedding light on.

To start, the frequency of our newsletters will change. Fret not! We will still send you news about global employment issues but not weekly. Bear in mind that It's just for a while as we revamp and re-strategise on the best way to give you quality content in the last quarter of the year.

We will change the type of content and content series we share with you in the last quarter. This includes where we create, publish and distribute our newsletter. Also, we will be changing how we share truly global-centric work-from-anywhere jobs.

Here are more details. 👇🏼

  • Newsletter content will be republished as LinkedIn articles each week

  • Our global job board will become automated so you have the best experience as you discover and apply to people-first companies

  • We will also focus on one content series at a time: Distributed Product of the Week — we will share more info subsequently on this

While we are excited to make changes in ways that our impact will be more beneficial, it also means being honest about our strategies and which ones need to be re-vamped.

We can't wait to kick these changes into full gear. The last quarter can't come fast enough. 🙂

What to expect next week

Next week, the newsletter will return to its usual style with one tiny change, The Top Global Jobs of the Week section will be unavailable temporarily. This is in line with the changes we mentioned to some of the content we share.

However, keep your eyes peeled for the usual helpful content that is geared toward global employment news and updates:

  • The Global Employment Advocate of the Week

  • Workplace callout

  • Distributed Tool of the Week

  • Distributed Company of the Week

  • Green Flags for Job Seekers

  • Global Term of the Week

That’s all the updates we have for you!

We are excited about all the upcoming changes to our strategy as we work towards making #wearedistributed your go-to for discussing issues surrounding toxic workplace cultures and global-centric employment practices to name just a few.
