Global Employment Advocate of the Week
In this week’s Global Employment Advocate of the Week, we’re highlighting Lomit Patel for his contribution to the discourse on the Future of Jobs, the global workforce, and AI.
The discussion on AI and the future of jobs has been on many people’s minds within the last couple of years with many more questions than answers. In this post, Lomit shares a Future of Jobs Report 2023 from WeForum.org. Check it out here if you’re interested in giving it a read.
Key highlights in his post that we agree with: a well-regulated labor market, a more equitable future of work, and significant skilling resources.

Thanks, Lomit for sharing this insightful report on the Future of Work. It’s given us a lot to think about.
Workplace Callout
In another Twitter blunder, Elon Musk has just cut Twitter employees’ parental leave from 20 weeks to 14 days, as per a report by the New York Times. The new policy states that employees are now subject to whatever state/country’s parental leave laws are, with a “top up” from Twitter of 14 days.
In a tweet from New York Times reporter, Kate Conger, the news broke about Twitter changing its policy.

With over 900 Twitter employees in California, where the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) requires employers with 50 or more employees to provide 12 weeks of parental leave, anyone in this state won’t be affected too much, but what does that mean for Twitter employees in different states or globally? As of now, only 12 states have mandatory parental leave, including New York and New Jersey. For everyone else, they’d only get 2 weeks, a cruel amount of time to allow a new parent.
As a behemoth tech company, this isn’t a good look, especially when competing tech company, Google, allows fathers 16 weeks of paternity leave and mothers are given 24 weeks, according to the New York Post.

Needless to say, there’s been a ton of callouts for Elon Musk’s decision as this is a long string of company cuts he’s implemented, such as his back-to-the-office mandate, his termination of free lunches claiming it cost $13 million a year, daycare costs, and more, according to another article by the New York Post.
For any new parents who live in a place that doesn’t offer paid parental leave, we feel for you.
Green Flags for Job Seekers
Ah yes! The latest section of our newsletter. 🎉
Green Flag for Job Seekers highlights important flags you can look out for when job hunting. Here’s what we mean. 👇🏾👇🏾
Pay Transparency is a green flag as most companies who are open about their pay/pay range do this to build trust with employees and to boost engagement and productivity. Additionally, it’s seen as vital for closing the gender pay gap and also shows that the company is offering fair market rates.
While job hunting, pay transparency also makes you feel reassured that you're being offered the same pay as other candidates and employees with a similar set of skills and experiences.
P.S Pay transparency helps reduce bias in the workplace, which is key to leveraging the playing field for job seekers and employees, ultimately prioritising equality.
Distributed Company of the Week

Audiense, an audience intelligence platform, that's helping marketers and consumer researchers to be innovative and develop relevant audience-centric strategies, is our Distributed Company of the Week!
Audiense has helped over 2000+ brands and agencies put consumer segmentation and cultural insights at the center of their strategy, and gives their teams the ability to understand audiences like never before.
Audiense is globally distributed and offers employees tons of benefits which include wellness days, learning days, birthdays off, global hangouts, and training budgets. You can see the full list of benefits in their Product Developer’s job opening. They also have a 4.2 Glassdoor Rating from 22 current and past employees.

As much as we strive to showcase companies with amazing work cultures and policies, keep in mind when reading reviews that companies have faults and are not perfect as they are being run by real people.
Some things that stood out to us when reading about how their company works: Audiense has a remote-first style work culture, and has been working 100% remotely for more than 8 years.
Their mindset, workflows, and communication are also remote which means everything is documented in Github: growth plans, learning path, architecture, protocols, onboarding, playbooks, design system, UX guidelines, etc.
They're invested in making their daily routines as autonomous as possible to allow them to work remotely efficiently.
Lest we forget, the company is transparent about salary which is a green flag!
